Inka Trail 5 Day Trek to Machupicchu

Inca Trail 5 day trek . permits available – 500 per day (around 200 for travellers and the rest for staff) – and they are being issued on a first-come-first-served basis. In order to avoid disappointment we recommend booking well in advance (up to a minimum of 3 months in peak season), unless you are extremely flexible over your travel dates.

Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Patallacta
After we have picked you up from your hotel we will take you to Chillca, the starting point of our long walk. By the left hand side of the river Urubamba with the snow draped top of Verónica and the ruins of Sallapunku in our sight. In the afternoon, we will realize a small trip around the campsite to visit the ruins of Patallacta.Meals:

  • Distance: 6kms/3.7 miles
  • Difficulty: Easy

Day 2: Patallacta – Llulluchapampa
A soft walk during the morning, which will take us to the community of Huayllabamba, from there the trail will ascend against Llulluchapampa (look for the beautiful Quñuales a tree specie) before we get to the first pass, where we will be camping and where our eyes will be blended with the emotional view over the landscape Huayllanay and its surroundings.

  • Distance: 11kms/6.8 miles
  • Difficulty: Moderate

Day 3: Llulluchapampa – Chakicocha –Phuyupatamarka
After walking approximately 2 hours we will arrive at the pass of Warmiwañusca (4.200 m.a.s.l.) From here the trail will descend into the Pacaymayo valley. From where we will ascend to the second pass presenting a incredible view over the mountain range of Vilcabamba. Descending to Chakicocha where we will be lunching. Among the trail we will visit the ruins of Runkuracay, Sayacmarca and finally where we also will encounter our campingspot Chakicocha.

  • Accommodation: Camping facilities with comfortable tents, inflatable mattress´s, blankets, pillows…. All set up by our super team!
  • Distance: 15kms/9.3 miles
  • Difficulty: Moderate/challenge.

Day 4: Phuyupamarka – Wiñayhuayna -Aguas calientes 
The trail will lead us against the cloudy mountain, where we will visit the ruins of Phuyupatamarca Intipata and wiñaywayna, and then we continue 1 more hour to get the sungate where we get a chance to see machupicchu and then we walk down to Aguas calientes.

  • Distance: 10kms/6.2 miles
  • Difficulty: Moderate

Day 5: Puente Ruinas – Aguas calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco.
Inca Trail Important 5th Day After an early breakfast, we climb 1 hour and 20 minutes to the lost city of Machu picchu. being in machupicchu at 6:00am where we will take in an inspiring and panoramic view of the Machu picchu citadel. After a short hike up to Machu picchu, we will register and then enjoy a 2-hours guided tour of the sanctuary-city.

After the tour of Machupicchu there will be free time to explore by yourself and then we will take the bus down or walk Part of the Inca Trail to Aguas Calientes where we will enjoy a lunch and free time to enjoy the town before returning to ollantaytambo by train and then bus back to cusco.

Porters: Depending on your level of physical fitness, the hike can be strenuous. If you would like to reduce the load you have to carry, you can hire an extra porter to carry your belongings. You can hire a porter to carry 8 kg (18 lb) for $80 USD, or 15 kg (33 lb) for $150 USD. Included in this service is the porter’s salary, entrance fee to Machu Picchu and his food. If you decide to use this service, the porter will carry your packs until we reach Aguas Calientes. You must reserve your extra porter at the same time you reserve the trip, because the extra porter is counted as part of the 500-person limit on the trail.

Huayna Picchu: If you are interested in climbing Huayna Picchu, the mountain overlooking Machu Picchu, there is an additional fee of $80 USD per person for us to buy your entrance ticket. Spaces are limited, so please let us know when booking whether you would like to hike Huayna Picchu, and we will reserve it for you. Sleeping Bags: If you would like to rent a sleeping bag from us, the price is $25 USD per person in total for this 4-day hike.

Trekking Poles: We recommend taking trekking poles on the hike especially when hiking downhill. If you would like to rent a pair for the whole hike, the price is $20 USD per person.

Vistadome Train: Our price includes a return train ticket in the Expedition train, however, if you would like to upgrade to the Vistadome train the price is an additional $50 USD per person.
Biking & Community Visit: This optional visit to the Andean village where our porters come from is included in our hike at no additional cost. For this option we will visit a local family and have a traditional meal with them. You may want to tip the family, and you can also bring small gifts for the local children such as pencils, crayons, and notebooks if you would like.

After sending your personal information, the next step is for each person in your group to make a deposit of $200 USD to reserve your hike. To receive the student discount, you must send an email at the time you reserve your spot with a scan of both sides of your student ISIC card. This is the only student card accepted by the National Park and you can find more information about this student ID on the ISIC website here. The remaining balance is due in Cusco. You may pay in cash (either in US dollars or Peruvian soles) at your briefing.
